The  Lowcountry Tarpon Invitational Tournament is an annual fishing tournament held in the Lowcountry of South Carolina.  It is based out of McClellanville.  Proceeds from the event go towards research and conservation efforts through the Bonefish and Tarpon Trust.

By all counts, 2010 was a banner year for the silver king in South Carolina.  The mullet run in September 2011 could be epic.

The 2011 Lowcountry Tarpon Tournament will begin with a Captains’ Meeting on Thursday 5:00 pm, September 15.  The Tournament will begin at 6:00 am on September 16.  Fishing is permitted anywhere in Georgetown and Charleston counties.  At the conclusion of the Tournament on September 17, there will be an evening reception and awards banquet in McClellanville, South Carolina at 5:00 pm, which will have a presentation by Dr. Jerry Ault from the Bonefish & Tarpon Trust (“BTT”) on South Carolina tarpon research, BBQ dinner, bar, and raffle.  Last year’s reception was generously provided by the City Hall, but we are actively searching for a new venue this year to accommodate significantly greater numbers this year.

The Tournament fee, which will include Tournament entry, raffle entry, and a yearly membership fee to the BTT, is $350 per boat if your payment in full is received by August 16, 2011.  Otherwise, the entry fee is $400 per boat if your payment is received after August 16, 2011.  All proceeds of the Tournament benefit the BTT.  Consequently, your entry fee is approximately 75% tax deductible.

Last year, we raised about $7,000 for the BTT.  Raising conservation funds for organizations like the BTT is a chief purpose of our Tournament, and it is critically important to sustain leading-edge research for tarpon and other marine fish, which benefits all recreational anglers in South Carolina.  We hope to make a much larger contribution in 2011!
